Justice League Unlimited is arguably the pinnacle of superhero animation. Set in the same universe which began with Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited builds upon the storylines from the smaller scale Justice League show. Unlimited expands the league, bringing in a roster of characters ranging from well-known characters such as Green Arrow and Black Canary to lesser known such as Vigilante and Shining Knight.

Unlimited featured a mixture of storylines and a variety of different team-ups, which contributed to its overarching storylines. Season 1 focused on Amanda Waller and Cadmus, while Season 2 focused on the Justice League battling the Legion of Doom. The show featured numerous callbacks to comic book storylines and the history of DC media, making it one of the most beloved by DC fans.

While Justice League Unlimited wrapped up perfectly, any cartoon that followed was going to be compared to Unlimited. This was the case for Legion of Superheroes, which focused on a young Clark Kent travelling to the 31st Century and adopting the persona of Superman, teaming up with the Legion of Superheroes. Legion gave some lesser known characters the spotlight, while offering a different interpretation of Superman, which was refreshing.

Unfortunately for the Legion of Superheroes, it will always be in the shadow of the far superior Justice League Unlimited.
