Gotham: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes

9. 'A Bitter Pill To Swallow' (S2 E9)

With the sinister Theo Galavan behind bars, you'd be forgiven for assuming that Gotham City might just feel a little less creepy for a while.

It doesn't. The episode opens with Galavan's sister Tabitha putting a hit on Jim Gordon. Shortly after, we see that Penguin has found his way into Nygma's clutches, and the latter is keeping him sedated.

This begins a theme that runs through the episode; the beginning of a strange, unpleasant and uncomfortable relationship between the two villains starts here, and they're both so unnerving in different ways that the two of them together is cause for unease.

With all that ramping up, we learn that the hitman hired to kill Gordon is none other than Eduardo Flamingo, one of the Dark Knight's most unapologetically bizarre adversaries, and it's established immediately that Flamingo is renowned for eating his victims.

The episode's climax sees Flamingo making good on this reputation, killing GCPD Officer Parks by gnawing at her neck until she dies, as a roomful of cops frantically beat him in hopes of separating the pair.

This episode is a slow build to the most horrifying sort of crescendo, but it's certainly a memorable watch.
