Gotham: 10 Reasons Why It’s A Bust

2. The Pace

To say that the plot of Gotham is moving slowly would be an understatement. The show does a fine job of setting up certain plot threads to take place, but has not moved the story forward as much as you'd like. It feels that the show is building up to something that may never be reached. The treachery of gang warfare and the uphill battle that Gordon has to face as an honest cop are very interesting points, but, as of yet, they have not gone anywhere. Again, since the show only has half a season under its belt, the pace of things could change, but it is unlikely. If the writers and producers want people to keep tuning in each week, things need to start happening. There are several good developments so far, but they are contained within their own stories and do not drive the overall narrative forward. In one episode, Gordon was in direct warfare with the mob, then the writers easily cleaned up their differences and put everything back to normal by the end of the episode. There is an over-arching plot in the first season about the murder of the Waynes and the mob. If they can start to show more of how their murder ties into Gordon's battle against Falcone (rather than hinting), the show may be able to be saved (for now).
