7. Solomon Grundy

Whew. Nobody saw this coming, did they?

Butch has been a huge fan favourite character since his introduction to Gotham, changing from just an average goon into a goofy enforcer over the course of the show's first two seasons. The revelation that he was Cyrus Gold, however, has very obviously flipped the character on his head, apart from the fact that he's also, y'know, dead.

In the comics, Cyrus Gold is the real identity of perennial zombie and villain, Solomon Grundy. Grundy, much like Butch in Gotham, is a bit of a brute, and more than handy with his fists. He's also gone toe-to-toe with just about every hero in the DCU too, so he's kind of a big deal.

Drew Powell has gone on record saying that he's "giddy" to be playing the latest, zombified incarnation of the character fans have seen since the show's debut, and who can blame him? Grundy's a special villain, and, since Butch is a standout character on the show, it can only be a good thing that his death was temporary.
