Gotham: 12 Early Batman Moments That Must Be Adapted
11. Thomas And Martha Waynes Murder
Its already been announced that the investigation of Thomas and Marthas murder will be the main focus of the show, but its important that the murder itself be shown. Every Batman adaptation has featured the tragic moment that changed Bruces life forever, and it would be a waste to just have the murder be mentioned between two cops. Even the animated Batman shows featured their deaths in censored, yet still powerful, scenes that got the impact across to children. Its only fair that Gotham viewers get to witness Bruces painful loss, in order that the impact rings true. While the show doesnt need to follow the comic books word for word, certain details need to remain intact: the family walking down the alleyway after seeing a movie/show (usually The Mark of Zorro), a criminal (usually depicted as Joe Chill) stopping them at gunpoint, the man demanding Marthas pearl necklace and shooting her and Thomas when Martha screams. Its unclear whether the Waynes killer will be just a small-time crook or an assassin who was sent by the mob to kill them. Depending on how much the show deviates from the source material, we could see the story expand on the assassin idea and watch a multi-season mystery unfold over who wanted the Waynes dead.
