Gotham: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

3. Season 4

Gotham Season 5
Fox

Taking inspiration from the likes of Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: Year One, Gotham's fourth season - subtitled 'A Dark Knight' - was something of a game-changer for Fox's little-Batman-show-that-could.

What I mean by that, is that Gotham really started moving the pieces of the overall puzzle into places we had been waiting to see them go, and the series accomplished that by introducing us to more recognisable faces from the DC Comics archive.

Widely praised for being one of the show's very best seasons, it's easy to see why.

The introduction of Sofia Falcone (played to perfection by the brilliant Crystal Reed) really switches up the day-to-day mechanics of the Gotham, while Ra's al Ghul's arrival dove the show deeper into Batman lore and gave Bruce some of his best character material.

The best part about Season 4? The return of Jerome Valeska (and subsequent rise of Jeremiah), which only served to prove why Cameron Monaghan was among Gotham's greatest assets and single-handedly brought the show to its most consistently strong run of episodes.

It started a little slow and formulaic, but once Season 4 hit its stride it never looked back.
