An old family friend of the Waynes and some-time employee of their technology company, Lucius Fox has earned a bigger presence in all corners of the Batman franchise thanks to Morgan Freeman's portrayal of the character in the Christopher Nolan films. He even appeared towards the end of Gotham's first season, if only for a moment. It was a key moment, however, with The Newsroom's Chris Chalk playing Fox in the episode The Anvil Or The Hammer. During that fleeting appearance, he gave some guidance to the young, still confused Bruce Wayne. Apparently Chalk is being upgraded to a regular cast member for Gotham's second season. Which hopefully means one thing: gadgets! Fox's role in the Dark Knight films and beyond was kitting Batman out with all of his wonderful toys, which obviously isn't necessary for Gotham's time period. But seeing him mess around with some early experiments, possibly helping Jim Gordon out, would be fun and fit the comic book-y tone the show has adopted.
