Gotham Season 3: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From 'Anything For You'

2. Fantastic Mr Fox

As I mentioned earlier, Edward’s return to the GCPD and numerous interactions with its inhabitants featured numerous highlights. However, there was one that deserved a spotlight shined specifically on it as it was also an Up for one of like, three non-Caucasian characters on the whitest show on television; Lucius Fox.

After making the great decision of having Lucius now work at the GCPD in the forensics department (Wayne Enterprises has been corrupted by the Court, don’t forget), I’ve been hoping to see more of him there. I’ve always had an affinity for the character and the actor providing some grizzled moxy has made him as cool a reinterpretation of an older character as everybody’s favourite ex-SAS Alfred (a Gotham television show original).

Less than impressed to see Nygma, Fox doesn’t wait before telling him that he’ll ‘end’ Ed if he ever tries to hurt him or Bruce again. Although he’s convincing, Ed says, ‘We know you’re not a man of violence’. And he’s right. But Lucius gets one up on the future Riddler by saying that he’d lace some lap equipment Ed would be sure to touch with something akin to ricin.

A battle of wits between two of the biggest brains on the box, the great interaction was capped off with Nygma subtly hesitating before lucking through a microscope presented to him by Lucius. An Up for Lucius as it showed Edward, a proven cold, calculated/calculating killer, respects his ability.

Lucius: "You're insane."
Ed: "I was insane. I have a certificate."
