Gotham Season 5: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'They Did What?'

3. The Foreshadowing

Gotham Season 5 Bat
Fox

The culmination of one chapter brings with it the beginnings of another, and that's exactly what we were witness too with They Did What? In addition to wrapping up the main narrative arcs, there are plenty of fun little moments of foreshadowing thrown in for us - ones that comic book fans will have undoubtedly delighted in.

The biggest, of course, is Bruce's realisation that bats are to be involved in his transformation into Gotham's watchful protector. As the young lad stares into the sky while an army of bats attack Bane, it becomes apparent that he's destined to use the winged mammal as his symbol of both hope and fear. Not even the word 'spine-tingling' does this remarkable scene justice.

There are also some neat little moments of foreshadowing featured in Oswald Cobblepot and Ed Nygma's storylines - especially the rooftop incident where Oswald's eye is irreparably damaged. This will undoubtedly lead to the former Mayor of the city using a monocle - much like his comic book counterpart.

The subtle knife-to-the-back that both men bestowed upon each other during their hug is also deeply suggestive of their future relationship, as - in spite of their camaraderie - they'll undoubtedly be stabbing each other in the back for the foreseeable.
