Gotham Season 5: 5 Ups & 1 Down From ‘13 Stitches’
Downs...
1. The Predictable Lee Twist
While on a whole, 13 Stitches is a really clever episode, the big twist (if you can call it that), featuring the return of Lee Thompkins, is far too predictable.
One of the only real disappointments of the final season has been how long Nygma's memory loss carried on for. After the riddle-obsessed genius got the answers he was looking for in the previous instalment, this storyline was well and truly wrapped up. However, the writers have oddly decided to replicate the same storyline with Lee. It's safe to say we were looking forward to the character's return, but the repetition of the season's worst narrative nearly ruined her comeback.
Considering every mainstay on the series had knowledge of Ed's memory loss, blackouts, and subsequent chip removal, the fact that none of them tweaked on in regards to Lee experiencing similar symptoms was completely unbelievable. The hardest pill to swallow was how Nygma was even oblivious to the situation, which is odd considering he'd literally just been through exactly the same thing.
Boston did his best with incorporating this storyline into his script, but not even his strides could hide the obviousness of the whole thing. Gotham's finest quality is its unpredictability, which is why this narrative simply didn't work.
