Gotham Season 5 Premiere: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From Year Zero
1. Gotham Is Back
It's been quite some time since Gotham was last on the air, which likely had something to do with the ambiguity surrounding whether or not the series was to be renewed. Moreover, after it was given a final season order at Fox, the significantly trimmed length meant that we had to wait to mid-season for the series to return. Well, you can all breathe a sigh of relief, as the Batman-prequel series is (finally) back on our screens.
Year Zero is an incredibly strong opening episode, and is significantly aided by the fact that almost every one of Gotham's central characters features in some capacity. We have Gordon, Bullock and Lucius Fox working around the clock at GCPD to get some more supplies into the city, meanwhile Alfred and Bruce tend to Selina in hospital. We also see Oswald reigning over the city from City Hall, while Babs and Tabby open a sanctuary for women in their nightclub. It's a very impressive instalment, with each character having been delegated a significant portion of screen time.
Gotham has been a mainstay of television for almost five years now, and its recent return marks the beginning of the end of an era, as after the next 11 episodes air, we'll be forced to say goodbye to the hideously beautiful world of Gotham City forever. For now, though, we can simply enjoy the fact that Gotham is back for another exciting run.
