Gotham Series Finale: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

1. A New Era For Gotham City Has Begun

Gotham Batman
Fox

Ever since the Fox series began way back in 2014, the signature city has had a ridiculous criminal problem. If it's not Oswald using his mayoral campaign for dodgy requests, it's Ed Nygma trying to blow things up. In short, the city has been in need of rescuing for quite some time now, and the arrival of Batman certainly insinuates that - for our protagonists - a new era is about to commence.

If the finale proved anything, it's that Batman isn't afraid of teaching criminals who's boss, as he wasted little time in putting both Oswald and Ed back in police custody - mere hours after they'd been released from a ten year stretch. This one action is likely an indication of what's to come for all those involved in criminal acts, as - much like his comic counterpart - Batman doesn't appear to tolerate anything that's against the law. What's more, the rebirth of Wayne tower is clearly indicative of the beginning of a new era as well - as is the return of Bruce Wayne.

It's a shame we won't get to see the Caped Crusader clean up Gotham, nor will we see him clash with the colourful selection of criminals that lie within the city. Oh well, speculation never did anyone any harm.
