Gotham Series Finale: What Does The Ending Really Mean?

2. ... And So Is The Joker

It's not just Bruce's transition into the Caped Crusader that fans have been highly anticipating, but also that of Cameron Monaghan's character, who was on a path to become The Joker. Starting way back in Season 1 when the Shameless actor first showed up as Jerome Valeska, a well-planned story commenced, as Jerome became a psychotic maniac hellbent on causing chaos within the eponymous city. After his death, his twin brother Jeremiah took over and tried to do the same thing.

Jeremiah was seemingly killed off in this season's Ace Chemicals, when he fell into a vat of chemicals, but this death simply paved the way for the beginning of a more crazed iteration of the character. Now simply known as J, Jeremiah is even crazier than he was before - if that was possible - and - in typical Gotham fashion - he's an incredibly original take on the beloved Joker character.

J is about as close to perfection as one could get in the wild world of Gotham, and he'll likely be facing off against Gotham's Dark Knight for many years to come.

The thought of not having Cameron Monaghan light up our screens as these psychotic characters anymore is somewhat heartbreaking. The young actor has been a joy to watch over the years, and his multiple characters stole the show every time that they appeared due to his stunning performances.
