Gotham TV Series: 10 Actors Who Should Play The Riddler

10. Ian Somerhalder

For better or worse, the best iteration of the Riddler that has been seen on screen was from the polarizing film done by Joel Shumacher, Batman Forever. The Riddler, played by highly energetic Jim Carrey, was undoubtedly at the pinnacle of his career when this film was released. With the Gotham TV show, it has to be assumed that audiences will see a younger, new Riddler. Gotham will be an origin story of Jim Gordon and along with his origin, it has to be believed that audiences will also witness a number of origin stories about its villains. Taking the form of a more serious Riddler, actor Ian Somerhalder could fill that role nicely. Although not known for any sort of psychopathic or maniacal roles to date, Somerhalder would be able to pull off a more mysterious and youthful Riddler more in line with something we might see from the Nolanverse. Better known now for the playing the role of Damon Salvatore on the CW's Vampire Diaries, Somerhalder burst onto the scene from the hit show LOST as Boone Carlyle. If Somerhalder played an origin storied Riddler, it would be interesting to see him as more of a curious, coming of age villain than the established Riddler we all know.
