20 TV Shows That Failed To Stick The Landing

13. Heroes

Heroes wasn't derailed by poor creative choices so much as it was hampered by the 2007 WGA Writers' Strike, which halted production on its truncated second season.

That being said, showrunner Tim Kring didn't do the show many favours when things got moving again. The first season was highly acclaimed, and rightly so - it was a fun, vibrant drama about everyday people granted superhuman abilities - but going forward Kring decided the vibe of the story needed changing.

From its second season to its closing fourth, Heroes lost the sense of adventure that coloured its debut, becoming a grim affair populated by characters who didn't seem to have any life in them.

The tone change led to so many issues, chief amongst them awful dialogue, uneven character arcs, and a palpable sense of unending hopelessness, that Heroes never lived up to the potential set by its first season. In fact, the first season feels like a completely different show altogether... and an infinitely better one at that.
