Hannibal: 10 Greatest 'Holy Sh*t!' Moments So Far

6. Dr. Lecter Shows His True Colors (And kills Miriam Lass)

Episode: Entrée Although the murderous nature of Dr. Lecter was hardly a secret this was the first time we had a glimpse of his true nature. Entrée is well named, for it is the episode where the show truly delves into its main course - the dark irony that Hannibal Lecter exudes in his day to day life is especially palpable from this episode forward, especially to those less familiar with the source material. Entrée convers the renewed obsession Jack Crawford has about a former trainee of his, Miriam Lass, and her mysterious disappearance while hunting a killer known as the "Chesapeake Ripper" (no one had coined the famous moniker "Hannibal the Cannibal" at this point). In the final scene of the episode, Miriam Lass finds her way to Dr. Lecter's study to inquire about the murders. When it comes to the title character, the show had been subconsciously training viewers to expect a roundabout approach, but instead it goes strait for the jugular: he attacks her and knocks her unconscious €“ presumably killing her offscreen. Dr. Lecter is one of the most intellectual murderers around, but this is the time his true ferocity is revealed €“ see the opening sequence of "Kaiseki" for said ferocity in its most extreme form.
