Hannibal: 10 Greatest 'Holy Sh*t!' Moments So Far

4. Dr. Lecter Convinces Will That Gideon Is A Hallucination

Episode: RĂ´ti Abel Gideon's escape from prison is lent very high stakes, due to Will Graham's deteriorating mental state when it takes place. The protagonist is prone to fits, hallucinations, and seizures, while a psychopathic murderer who he insulted is wandering around free. This leads us to the crowning moment of Hannibal's manipulation of Will - when Will Graham confronts Dr. Lecter and Gideon in Lecter's dining room. While having a special investigator for the FBI dropping by on a serial killer house party is an impressive feat of gate crashing to say the least, Dr. Lecter's subsequent move to take advantage of Will's perception is as horrifying as the show ever got without shedding a drop of blood. Holding a gun to the two of them, Will Graham demands to know if Gideon is a hallucination or not. Hannibal smoothly replies that they are the only two in the room. This ploy works because Will Graham has such an inherit distrust in himself, and such a high opinion of Hannibal Lecter.
