Hannibal Season 2: 5 Things That Will Happen Next

2. The Tooth Fairy Will Make An Appearance

The Tooth Fairy is psycho-du-jour in the Red Dragon novel and film. Abused as a child by his grandmother, he is obsessed with William Blake's 'The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed in Sun,' and believes that with each victim he murders brings him closer to becoming the Dragon depicted in the painting. Originally depicted by Ralph Fiennes in the movie version of Red Dragon, the character of the psychotic Francis Dolarhyde, or Tooth Fairy as he becomes known, is an instrumental part of ongoing Lecter lore. He is responsible for bringing Will Graham out of retirement and back to an imprisoned Hannibal Lecter. Now we know this season will be two arcs, could the second of these lead us to the Tooth Fairy? Bryan Fuller reveres the source material, and even though the original plan was to have him appear in the fourth season, the show's perilous existence (it was saved at the last moment for this run of episodes) and the fact Fuller's own impatience has seen him move the Jack-Hannibal fight forward might force the showrunner to force his hand early. Frankly, Fuller will need a reason to keep fans around and offer enough intrigue for a third season renewal, and this offers him a perfect solution. Obviously, this can only be a good thing €“ while Fuller him and his team have most definitely put their own spin on Lecter, to see a character such as the Tooth Fairy make an appearance would be fan service to the ultimate level. It's unlikely we'll see Dolarhyde until Lecter is behind bars, but with that now a distinct possibility given that we know Jack Crawford discovers Hannibal's less socially acceptable tendencies, it's entirely possible we will get a glimpse or an easter egg of the Red Dragon.
