The first season of Hannibal did not shy away from gore. In fact, it pretty much ran headlong into buckets of blood and viscera, and was a celebration of all things macabre. Many are still surprised by just how gruesome the first 13 episodes are. We've thus far been subjected to a serial killer using human bodies to grow mushrooms, someone turning his victims into biblical tablaeu's replete with skin for angel wings, and of course the victims of the Chesapeake Ripper. One thing we can be sure of going into the next season of Hannibal and beyond is that NBC are not likely to tone down the darker aspects of the show. The gore was never there for the sake of it it helped sell the world as a real place and helped us truly sympathise for Will Graham as he tries to get inside the minds of these killers. Plus, the modus operandi of this small army of psychopaths was a major selling point, giving the gave gore-hounds plenty of spectacle to love while providing interesting character beats for more squeamish, cerebral viewers. So it's safe to say that there will be blood, because without it this wouldn't be Hannibal it'd just be a bunch of well-dressed people arguing in rooms and eating exotic meals. Strip away the cannibalism, and that's basically Mad Men. So that's just a handful of things we can expect from the new season of NBC's Hannibal. What would you like to see? Do you think the show needs to put Hannibal behind bars (or bite-proof glass) as soon as possible, or should we get another season of cat and mouse? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
