Harry Potter TV Show: 13 Changes To The Originals They Should Make

2. Add More Of A Pay-Off To The Political Commentary

The Harry Potter books do contain a huge amount of political and social commentary which only increased as the series went on. As much as the Wizarding World seems like a wonderful place, it is actually (like any society) a pretty flawed and messed-up one overseen by a corrupt, woefully incompetent Ministry of Magic and filled to the brim with discrimination and prejudice.

The book series does do a very fine job at building up this flawed world throughout the story, but at the same time, there isn't ever much of a pay-off to this. The books establish all these problems without necessarily taking the time to combat them and depict any particular change.

It would be nice if the show added a genuine pay-off to all of the social and political commentary. What's more, the template for it is there. It has been said in subsequently released media that, under the leadership of people like Kingsley Shacklebolt and Hermione Granger, the Ministry did get its act together and become a more positive force, so it would be nice if the TV show depicted this in some way, however briefly.
