Hawkeye: 8 Big Questions Raised By Episodes 1 & 2

5. What Was Armand's Problem With Eleanor?

It’s not how Eleanor wanted her daughter to find about her engagement, but Kate was told about the wedding by Jack’s uncle, Armand III. The old man was devastatingly frank and more than a little condescending when he spoke to Kate about it.

As he saw it, though Jack seemed to think he had won the lottery with Eleanor, Armand’s opinion was very, very different. Clearly he had a problem with his nephew's new fiancé, and he was seen to be threatening her before going down to the black market auction to bid on the Ronin sword. He told his nephew that he was at the end of his tether with Eleanor, but what exactly was his problem with her?

There are clearly some dodgy dealings going on within the Duquesne family, and Jack is certainly hiding something, but where does Eleanor fit in?

Was Armand unhappy because she was an outsider? Does she have more to do with these dealings than it first appears and he was unhappy with her influence? Did she have her eyes on the inheritance Jack spoke to his uncle about? Whatever the reason, fans will never hear the truth from Armand’s mouth at least...
