With the House of Dragon prequel series already on the way, HBO is reportedly looking to move forward with several other Game of Thrones-driven shows.

As per Variety, one such series that’s in early development is an offering based on Dunk and Egg. From George R.R. Martin, the Dunk and Egg novellas are set 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones, with the focus being on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and a young Aegon Targaryen.

Elsewhere, HBO has held meetings with several big-name writers about pitches based on other works from Martin – with one such pitch revolving around Robert’s Rebellion, the Iron Throne war which again took place decades prior to what audiences have seen from the world of Westeros.

While the majority of those purported big-name writers’ identities remain unknown, one confirmed name to have held talks with HBO is Bruno Heller. Heller is likely best known for his writing, producing and directing work on small-screen efforts such as Rome, The Mentalist, and Gotham.

All of the Game of Thrones-related shows that are being discussed right now, are all for series that will take place before the main Thrones show – with zero current plans to develop any sequels or spin-offs from the original series.

HBO is aiming high for all of these Game of Thrones properties, with the plan being for these shows to make HBO a must-purchase streaming service, much like how The Mandalorian was used as a tantalising tool to get people to sign up for Disney+ - and how the recent Investors Day announcement of ten new Star Wars/Disney+ projects such Disney stock value shoot up!
