HBO has released the first trailer for new drama The Night Of, their latest miniseries which will aim to be your new summer TV obsession.

The crime drama stars Coen Bros. favourite John Turturro and Star Wars: Rogue One's Riz Ahmed, and has been created by novelist Richard Price (The Wanderers) and Oscar-winning screenwriter Steven Zaillian. Loosely based on the 2008 UK series Criminal Justice, it will delve deep into the complexities of the US justice system.

It will focus on Ahmed's Nasir Khan, a young man from a Muslim family in Queens, who is accused of committing a murder he has absolutely no recollection of. In desperation, he hires Turturro's Jack Stone, a defence lawyer who may be in way over his head. Supporting players include HBO regular Michael K. Williams (aka Omar from The Wire).

The trailer is dark and intriguing, and wonderfully shot, while both Ahmed and Turturro look to be in great form; the former as the scared young man caught up in a complex murder case, the latter as the smalltime lawyer promoted to the big leagues. There's plenty of talent behind and in front of the camera here, and reason to believe HBO might have another hit on their hands with the eight-part miniseries.

With no True Detective on the schedule this summer (or anytime in the near future, with cancellation expected), this could well be the show to fill the HBO crime drama need in our lives, and it definitely looks like it'll be worth checking out.
