From the dulcet tones of Johnny Cash, to the carefully selected but fleeting moments of dialogue, to the flashes of Carrie running through a foreign market, the trailer is all intended to build the drama, to rack up the tension. Shots of Carrie in disguise, Brody covered in blood, Saul driving past a burning US flag, are all there to throw open more questions, to set our imaginations running. The trailer is all fleeting glances and questionable smiles, cunningly elusive, with a couple of new characters thrown in for good measure. The whisper of Isa over the fade out is a sly reminder of where Homeland left us. If you can, watch the US trailer too, which features a haunting cover of The Police's 'Every Breath You Take' by a children's choir, and finishes brilliantly with Carrie smiling a little too crazily at Brody.
