House Of The Dragon Episode Nine Review - 9 Ups & 1 Down

5. Up - The electric atmosphere

House of the Dragon
HBO

The Green Council simply did not let up in terms of sheer pace from the second events began to unfold on screen, with the dastardly acts of the usurpers steadily piling up in scale and significance, throwing fuel on an already blazing fire.

Despite not featuring a spectacular flashpoint like Hardhome or the Red Wedding in the traditional vein of ninth episodes of Game of Thrones gone by, The Green Council was still a white knuckle, engrossing ride. Viewers were left gnashing their teeth in abject frustration at the seemingly endless deviousness of the Hightowers and openmouthed at the spectacular finale. Special praise must also be given to Ramin Djawadi's haunting score in cultivating such an electric atmosphere, the gentle piano key plunks contrastingly invoking memories of some of Cersei's more unbelievably wicked moments.

While it may not have been the blockbuster experience that fans might have come to expect from HBO's penultimate Westerosi outings, bear in mind that Game of Throne's maiden ninth episode also saw the culmination of the first season's political rumblings. Viewers may not have seen the purported main character brutally executed but this was still a momentous instance within House of the Dragon's storyline and executed to perfection by the crew and cast.
