House Of The Dragon - Every Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Rhaenys Targaryen
It is somewhat paradoxical that someone bestowed with the unfortunate nickname of the Queen Who Never Was comes off as so noticeably regal.
Combining an aura of world weary cynicism with fearless poise and dignity, Eve Best's fiery Rhaenys Targaryen is the wife of the Sea Snake Corlys Velaryon, eventually becoming the de facto ruler of Driftmark in his absence when he is wounded in battle, despite Vaemond Velaryon's attempts to supplant her.
Were it not for Rhaenys, Rhaenyra might still not know her father was dead. The Targaryen Princess staged a stunning escape from King's Landing on her dragon Meleys after the Hightowers imprisoned her to prevent news of the King's death from spreading, while simultaneously gate-crashing Aegon's coronation in blockbuster fashion by exploding through the floor of the Dragonpit.
It is a tragic twist of irony that by delivering the news to Rhaenyra, the Queen Who Never Was sets off the chain of events leading to the fateful confrontation in the skies over Storm's End. However, without the support of the Targaryen Princess, Rhaenyra would not have been able to count on the indispensable support of the Velaryon navy in the upcoming conflict.
Rhaenys has had limited screen-time in comparison to some of the other cast members, so it speaks volumes to the quality of Eve Best's performance that she remains such a memorable character. The actress plays to Rhaenys' nuances with textbook ease, commanding the attention of the viewer with every second she has to work with.
