House Of The Dragon - Every Main Character Ranked From Worst To Best
13. Harrold Westerling
House of the Dragon's Harrold Westerling bears uncanny parallels to Game of Thrones supporting mainstay Barristan Selmy, and not just for his position as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
Westerling's role has been expanded significantly from his involvement within Fire and Blood, where his mentions are limited to just a few lines of text, to embody the epitomization of nobility and chivalry. In a scene that the aforementioned Ser Barristan would be proud of, Ser Harrold confronts the villainous Criston after the latter murders Lord Beesbury before contemptuously resigning his position after Otto orders him to eliminate Rhaenyra and her family.
All of this, after spending every second of his time on-screen to date attempting to prevent the two families from literally ripping each other's throats out; poor Harrold. The elderly knight's expression of dismayed horror when confronted with the sight of the eyeless Aemond in Driftmark says it all. The long suffering peace keeper appears set to take on a protector role to Rhaenyra in the vein of his Game of Thrones counterpart when the second season debuts; his valorous nature will make him an indispensable asset to the Black Queen as she deals with the ramifications of her usurpation and the murder of her son as the conflict begins in earnest.
