6. A Focus On New Houses
Well, technically very old houses, but they will be new to those watching that aren't familiar with the source material.
Everyone at this point knows the great houses of Westeros, namely the Starks, the Lannisters, the Tyrells, the Martells, the Baratheons etc., and though House of the Dragon will primarily focus on the house of the dragon, the Targaryens won't be the only family to have a role to play.
The Hand of the King, Otto Hightower and his daughter Alicent will have pivotal roles to play, as well as Corlys and Rhaenys Velaryon, Criston Cole, Harrold Westerling, and there will even be some Lannisters thrown in there for good measure.
With the exception of the latter, these are families that didn't get any real screen time throughout Game of Thrones. Essentially this is because they have dwindled down to nothing or next to nothing in the 200 years between shows in the World of Ice and Fire timeline, but they will finally have a chance to shine this year.
