House Of The Dragon: Everything We Know So Far

4. The Will Be A Lot Of Dragons

No fewer than 17 dragons, in fact. That much was confirmed by George R. R. Martin himself during a podcast interview last year. The show is called House of the Dragon, so there would have been a certain amount of disappointment had this not been the case.

Game of Thrones saw three dragons hatch to Daenerys at the end of season one, before growing steadily throughout the rest of the series. With the exception of the Night King who took Viserion from her, and Jon Snow who flew alongside her, Daenerys was the only dragonrider in the series.

Things will be much different in House of the Dragon, as there will be multiple dragons, and multiple different riders. This should certainly lead to some simply epic battles in the skies above Westeros.

17 is a very specific number for Martin to use, suggesting that there will be the 14 Targaryen dragons big enough to ride during the Dance of the Dragons, as well as either the three that are too small, or the three rogue, riderless dragons living on Dragonstone at the same time. In any case, the most famous dragon in the history of Westeros, Balerion the Black Dread won't be making an appearance, as he died several decades before these events, but the likes of Vhagar, Vermithor, and Silverwing will be just as awesome to behold.

After all, dreams didn't make the Targaryens kings, dragons did.
