How Better Call Saul Season 4 Ending Connects To Breaking Bad

4. The Salamanca Struggle

Lalo Salamanca is an intriguing new addition to Better Call Saul, given how late in the day he's arrived and the fact he doesn't appear in Breaking Bad.

That suggests he's not going to make it out alive, although there's evidence in Breaking Bad that works for and against: Gus believes the entire Salamanca family to be dead in Crawl Space, but when Walt and Jesse kidnap Saul, he thinks it's Lalo.

Whatever happens, he's ramping up to have a major part in the remainder of Better Call Saul, with the rivalry between Gus and the Salamancas coming to a head. Lalo is infringing on the former's turf, especially in this episode - even attempting to tail Mike - and that sets him up as the primary antagonist of this series.
