How I Met Your Mother: 10 Craziest Things Ted Did For Love

In How I Met Your Mother's universally criticised finale, it's rapidly revealed that Tracy, the titular "Mother" (and in many ways the invisible centrepiece of the whole show) had died of a mysterious illness just six years before Ted started telling the infamous story of how they met to his kids.

Of course, the nine-series story took many diversions along the way, not the least to explore Ted's tumultuous relationship with Robin. When his kids call Ted out on still being obsessed with Robin (fair do's), Ted decides -- naturally -- to turn up at her apartment miles away in the dead of night with the same Blue French Horn he gave her years ago... because their relationship always worked out so well before.

Although Ted and Robin broke up when they were younger due to Robin not wanting kids, there's no reason to think the pair's toxic on again/off again relationship would work out any better this time around. Ted's decision to go back to Robin is either a prime example of Ted's romantic delusions or proof of his masochism, as he actively looks to get his heart broken again by the same woman for the umpteenth time.

Either way, the show's official ending doesn't spell good news for everyone's favourite unreliable narrator.
