How I Met Your Mother: 10 Craziest Things Ted Did For Love

8. The Rain Dance

Finding out that Robin is about to embark on a work trip with her co-worker and notorious womanizer Sandy Rivers, the always rational Ted decides to take a final stab at winning the woman of his dreams, surprising her (in her apartment, entering without consent) with a troupe of blue instrument-wielding musicians -- as if the one Blue French Horn wasn't enough.

Shockingly, this didn't work, so Ted decides to do what any grounded person would do and attempts to influence the weather, learning a Rain Dance from a woman with a PhD in Native American Studies in the hopes of cancelling Robin and Sandy's work trip.

Potentially culturally offensive scenes ensue, Ted appropriating an age-old cultural tradition for his own shallow romantic pursuits. What's more, the technique seems to work, and Robin and Ted finally become a couple at the end of the episode.

It's no accident that Lily leaves Marshall for San Francisco in the very same episode, Ted's romantic success -- after an entire season of emotional manipulation -- being a symbolic representation of the death of true love.
