How I Met Your Mother: 10 Legendary Barney Moments

Barney has done some pretty impressive things over the course of the show, including pick up a woman by pretending to be Neil Armstrong and staging an incredible proposal from Robin in Season Eight, but it is Season Two's "Lucky Penny" where he shows just how talented he really is.

Marshall has spent months training for the New York City Marathon, but he can't run it because he breaks his toe. Wanting to prove how easy a marathon is, Barney agrees to take his place in yet another one of his many challenges. Marshall thinks it's a lost cause, but come race day Barney does very well and posts an impressive time.

The hilarity of all this comes when he takes the subway later on. When he sits down, he can't get up because his legs have stopped working. It's funny to see him so cocky and then so helpless in the same episode, and because he is such a likeable character he makes both situations equally hilarious and fun to watch. Watching him slip around on dead legs is slapstick comedy at its best.

The final scene showing some guys stealing his marathon medal, a fate which he accepts, is an added moment of brilliance to the whole story.
