When Ted first met Victoria (Ashley Williams) at his friend Stuart's wedding in Season 1, she was the mysterious girl that he has the impromptu date with. You can see him falling in love with her immediately and he wants to get to know her, but they said no last names and no strings attached. When she has him close his eyes and he opens them, she vanishes. If Ted had never of tried to track her down, Victoria would have made sense as the eventual mother. But he finds out that she's the baker/caterer of that same wedding, finds her shop in the city, opens the door, she is so happy to see him, and they end up kissing and thus, begin a relationship. After they break up following her going to Germany and Ted trying to get back with Robin, Ted and Victoria eventually do get back together at the end of Season 7 and in Season 8, Ted even proposes to her which she originally says yes to, but the relationship does get called off for good when Ted refuses to cut Robin out of his life. Ted and Victoria had so much promise, but something always got in the way. Mostly, it was Ted's past with Robin and Victoria unwilling to accept it.
