In the picture he shows Barney, he talks about his daughter that he has named Carly, who is in college, and we never see when Barney comes over for dinner. The clues were adding up, as she was a student at Ted's college and we never knew of Carly's true identity, until Season 8. In the episode of "Ring Up," Barney tries to get Ted to sleep with the young, hot girl that he meets at college. When Barney wants to see who it is and Ted shows him the picture, he freaks out because the girl that Barney persisted Ted to get with, was Carly herself. The theory of Barney's half-sister was one a lot of fans had for a long time, and it would have made sense because when Ted talked to his future kids, he refers to him as Uncle Barney, and Barney being his brother-in-law would have explained that. But then the writers squash this theory, and you have to wonder if they did this on purpose because they knew the fans thought of this potential theory.
