How I Met Your Mother: Every Season Finale Ranked Worst To Best

7. Challenge Accepted (Season 6)

How I Met Your Mother Come On
CBS

The show's season six finale is all about closure and possibility, as Ted prepares to start work on his new building, Marshall tries to get a new job despite the imminent threat of food poisoning, and Barney and Robin consider their relationship and what the future might hold.

Much of the episode is centred around Ted's inability to let his ex, Zoey, out of his life, which causes Barney and Robin to remember their failed relationship whilst telling Ted to move on. This is countered with Marshall's ridiculously funny belief that he's going to throw-up mid-job interview.

A funny episode that only really exists to tie-up loose ends and put Ted on the right path with his love life, Challenge Accepted comes complete with the surprising and lovely reveal that Lily is pregnant, and a final twist showing Barney about to get married in a flashforward, just after the episode reintroduces him to his ex Nora.

It sets up some big things, allows Ted and Barney to put their season-long differences aside, but doesn't quite reach the heights of the show's other finales.
