It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 12: Ranking Every Episode From Worst To Best

7. Making Dennis Reynolds A Murderer

Sunny is well known for throwing in an experimental episode every now and again, and Season 12 was certainly no exception.

What we got this time around was an episode that parodies the hit documentary drama series, Making A Murderer, and centers around allegations that Dennis murdered his ex-wife, Maureen.

The majority of the episode's humor comes from the rest of the gang's reactions, responses and testimonies to the allegations; to great effect. We have Frank attempting to sell Dennis out only to have his own illicit past come back to bite him, Dennis and Mac getting in an argument over Austin Powers during an interview, and then best of all a doped-up Charlie being asked how Dennis allegedly killed Maureen by police, and responding with the names of pro wrestling maneuvers. In short, the gang's ridiculous nature contrasted against the episode's pseudo-serious tone perfectly.

Ultimately, Dennis is revealed to be completely innocent, which is used as a means to take a few healthy jabs at the embellished nature of the true crime genre. Not to say that the accusations weren't unfounded, as Dennis' pre-established psychopathic tendencies are brought up as well, keeping the character portrayal consistent.

All and all, this was one of the truly great episodes of the season. The only reason it doesn't rank higher is because it only gets better from here.
