The reveal in season 1 that Dee and Dennis’ grandfather, Heinrich ‘Pop-Pop’ Landgraf, was not just a decorated WWII veteran. But in fact, a former SS officer is by far one of the series’ greatest twists.

Another one of the series’ greatest surprises is during his season 8 reappearance in which it is revealed that he took his grandchildren to a Hitler Youth-style gathering, instead of the innocent camping holiday that they both remember.

The controversial nature of this is clearly obvious but was only compounded by Frank’s obsession with his potential ‘Nazi treasure’ along with Mac and Charlie’s attempts to sell his memorabilia for profit, including the hilariously weird German Shepherd painting that was allegedly painted by Adolf Hitler himself.
