4. Mac's Mom

Never has a character said so little yet drawn so much laughter.

Mac's Mom is a wonderful side character, purely because all she does is grunt and groan. Judging from the poverty of Mac's upbringing and the fact his father is a convicted felon, it's safe to say that Mac's Mom has had a tough time of it. Mac sees her as a saint, but it's clear she doesn't give two hoots about it.

Chain smoking, grunting and generally being a sour puss, she plays wonderfully off of the overly joyful and upbeat Charlie's Mom, especially when, due to burning down her house, Mac's Mom goes to live with her.

This sets up one of the best episodes of the entire series, Old Lady House: A Situational Comedy. With accusations that Mac's Mom is abusing Charlie's, the gang set up cameras around the house to keep tabs on it. The whole episode is a riot, especially Frank's cameo, but the real genius is Dennis, who begins adding a laughter track to the proceedings. Mac's Mom is hilarious, lashing out with her newspaper or her foul mouth, despite Mac's insistence she is a lovely person.

Always a sure bet to raise a laugh, Mac's Mom deserves her spot on this list.
