7. Breaking Dee
While each of the gang is the butt of the joke sooner or later, the perennial fall guy is Dee. The rest of the gang delight in her failure, ridicule and even physically abuse her at any given opportunity. It’s one of their favourite group activities.
In “The Gang Broke Dee”, we find her at her lowest ebb. The jibes of the gang simply bounce off her, which is no fun. They need her to fight back to add some sport to their bullying, so they resolve to build her back up, so that they can knock her down once more.
Dee’s newfound lack of confidence means that she can perform her stand up comedy without puking, and before long she’s a bonafide star with an upcoming TV appearance.
Only, she isn’t. The whole thing turns out to be a ruse on the part of Charlie, Frank, and Mac (Dennis pretends not to be furious at his exclusion). Dee had her dream come true and then snatched from her, sending her spiralling back down.
The gang tell her that the whole thing was to teach her a lesson about… something or other. It’s certainly an effective teaching method.
