It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best (So Far)

4. Season Seven

Its Always Sunny
FX

For the seventh season of the show, Rob McElhenney gained over fifty pounds (cultivating mass, as Mac puts it) for no other reason than he thought it would be funny. Safe to say it paid off massively, as Fat Mac is now one of the most iconic and recognisable parts of the entire show.

Outside of this hilarious twist, season seven really is near-perfect organism. Episodes like "Thunder Gun Express", "The Storm of the Century" and of course "How Mac Got Fat" are all fantastic additions to the show, but perhaps the best episode of the season is "Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games." The entire episode has the gang at their most unhinged, competitive, narcissistic and cruel - and it's just brilliant.

The only issue with the season is "Frank's Brother", an episode which sees audiences get introduced to Frank's brother through a series of flashbacks. Not only is it a terrible narrative, but it's also not even remotely funny, and remains Sunny's only truly bad episode. Other than that, season seven is peak Sunny through-and-through.
