It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: The Worst Episode From Every Season
9. Season 6 - The Gang Gets A New Member
Guest stars are the kind of thing that every sitcom does, as they bring attention to their shows and act as a nice way to make episodes memorable. Always Sunny doesn't stray away from this, but it also doesn't pay much attention to it either. Overall, this episode is an example of how it doesn't quite commit to glorifying or mocking its guests.
"The Gang Gets A New Member" follows two stories. The main plot shows as Dennis and Mac kick Charlie out of the gang in favour of their old friend Schmitty. Then there's a subplot where Dee returns to her old school and evaluates her future as an actress.
Jason Sudekis certainly deserves credit for pulling off the character of Schmitty and feeling like something far removed from the gang and show. However, that also comes to bite the character in the butt, as his over-the-top energy is a little too perky and feels out of place in Paddy's. While that is the point, it still makes this outing feel out of the ordinary.
The episode doesn't make a big deal out of him being there but also doesn't poke much fun at him either, making the entire thing feel pointless and uninspired.
