6. The Giant Glass Cylinder Of Safety
In Chapter 7, it is revealed that the puppet master behind Lenny, the devil with the yellow eyes, and all the other ghosts that have haunted David throughout his life are the work of the Shadow King, aka Amahl Farouk. This epiphany is reached by Cary and Oliver in the Astral Plane, and they quickly try to figure out what to do.
After receiving some glasses from Oliver that allow the viewer to block out things that aren't really there, and are just Farouk's projections, Cary dons the former's diving suit and heads out to get Syd up to speed.
He leads her to, of all things, a giant clear cylinder that looks like one of those things you put your checks into at a drive-thru bank teller, another creation of Oliver's; which exists in an area of pure white, no less. It's then explained in the cramped space that Farouk cannot hear them while they're inside.
It seems that when you have the power to create anything you want in an alternate dimension, you might as well get a little weird with it.
