Legion: 6 Ups & 1 Down From 'Chapter 2'
5. Understanding David's Powers
One of the big tasks for Dr Bird and her team - Ptonomy and Cary and Kerry Loudermilk (those name jokes may get old eventually, but it hasn't happened yet) - is to further understand the powers David possesses, and help him understand them too (and subsequently us viewers as well).
Although we had hints of it in the first instalment, Chapter 2 builds on the fact that David is a mutant, and veers more into what precisely those powers are - telepathy, telekinesis - and how he might be able to channel them.
It's an effective way of fleshing out the character's abilities, but wisely doesn't give us too much too soon; this will be a long process. But it does mean we get some more cool moments - albeit nothing that tops the kitchen scene from last week - of David using his mind.
The show has also established itself as one that'll tackle mental health, though, and it's a delicate balance in straying between that and superpowers. It's a line the show will need to continually tread carefully, so as not to be reductive of mental illness, but here it once again does a fine job of intelligently and respectfully handling that duality.
