Legion: 6 Ups & 1 Down From 'Chapter 2'
4. Memory Art
As mentioned, this episode doesn't have a huge 'wow' moment in the vein of the kitchen scene or the one-shot escape from last week's episode. However, director Michael Uppendahl (Mad Men, American Horror Story) still pulls off a few neat tricks, as does Noah Hawley's script.
The best of both comes in the form of the memories we see brought to life by Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), a sardonic 'memory artist', who has the ability to recreate people's memories as if they're a part of the real world.
It's a fascinating device, which works perfectly for delving deeper into David's life, and allows for the show to once again flex its visual muscles. Ptonomy creates some lush worlds out of David's memories, and there are lots of smaller little moments that work really well and come off as particularly inventive, such as the scene in the therapists room when the sound distorts, we pause, and then rewind and play it again, or transport ourselves through David's memories. The show set the benchmark in its first episode, but proves here it's not a one-trick pony.
