Locke & Key Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. Scot Is Insanely Cringe-Worthy

This may be a divisive opinion, but there's one character in Locke & Key who is absolutely insufferable, and that's Kinsey Locke's (Emilia Jones) love interest Scot Cavendish (Petrice Jones).

Though Petrice Jones does about as well with the role as any actor could, the twitchy nerd is more an irritating attempt at comic relief than an actually engaging character in his own right.

A solid 70% of his dialogue is either a forced pop-culture reference, a bad joke, or him mentioning that he's English, most of which proves wince-inducingly awkward rather than charming as clearly intended.

Given that Scot forms a major aspect of Kinsey's arc throughout the season, it's a major dramatic ding for the series, and smacks of the writers trying a little too hard to pander to teen viewers.
