Loki Season 2 Episode 2 Review - 6 Ups & 2 Downs

6. Up - Terrible, Awful Things

Ever since debuting as the main antagonist of Thor in 2011, and going on to battle the Avengers a year later, Tom Hiddleston's Loki has become an incredibly popular mainstay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is some tough competition, but you could argue that he is one of the franchise's most popular characters ever.

There is no way Hiddleston would still be in the role 12 years later if that wasn't true, and it's amazing to think how far the God of Mischief has come. Thor's brother has essentially had two redemption arcs, the first that ended with his sacrifice in Infinity War, and this second one taking place away from that initial timeline throughout his own solo series.

Loki is of course the protagonist of Loki, but there were plenty of reminders through episode two that he wasn't always the guy to root for. He has done terrible, awful things, and this only drove home just how much he has evolved as a character even since the TVA first nabbed him from his branched timeline.

The icing on this particular cake was how he made light of attacking New York and trying to kill Tony Stark. How powerful are the writing and the production around this character that even after this, he is still almost universally beloved?
