Lost: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Must See

5. The Countless Allusions To Darren Aronofsky's Pi

Episode(s): Too Many To Count It seems both bizarre and totally perfect that Lost contains so many nods, allusions and similarities to Darren Aronofsky's sci-fi debut Pi - scattered across the span of the show are countless scenes, shots and number-based theories that link these unrelated works. Why? Well... who knows, really? Is it just a result of fate... or the sum of a major coincidence? Lost pretty much begins with a reference to Pi: just like in the movie, Lost's pilot episode opens with a close-up shot of somebody's eye (in the case of Lost, it's Jack). Then there's the little notion that Pi is a movie about a person trying to find a 216-digit number; die-hard Lost fans will instantly notice that 216 is double 108, which is what the show's mysterious "Numbers" add up to - those being 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42. The very notion of reoccurring numbers is very Pi-like anyway, of course, as is the weird and hallucinogenic feel of the show, coupled with the constant religious references. Either one of the writers really, really likes Pi, or things just got super creepy up in here.
