Lost: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Must See
17. Essam Plays Half-Life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSaWh9Pcjzc Episode: The Greater Good It lasts no more than two seconds, but at the beginning of the episode titled "The Greater Good," there's a brief shot of a a television displaying Valve's iconic video game Half-Life. Before you can get a proper look, the camera pans to reveal the person playing the game: Essam Tasir, the member of a dangerous terrorist cell Sayid is tasked with infiltrating. "Dammit," curses Tasir. "I'm out of ammo." Rather brilliantly, his accomplice nonchalantly suggests that he "Use the crowbar." Tasir shrugs. "That only works on the zombies." There are two things that are interesting about the inclusion of Half-Life. Firstly, Essam appears to be playing the game on a home console and not on a personal computer - something of a rarity. Secondly, J.J. Abrams - the executive producer on Lost - later bought the Half-Life film rights from Valve, alongside the rights for the Portal video game series. It's almost as if this served as an eerie prediction of things to come! How very Lost.
