Lost: 20 Easter Eggs, In-Jokes And References You Must See

18. "Henry Gale" & The Wizard Of Oz

Episode(s): One Of Them, The Man Behind the Curtain Remember when Benjamin Linus was first introduced and he claimed that his name was Henry Gale? That wasn't just a random name - it was a fully-fledged reference to The Wizard of Oz... and for good reason. Henry Gale was the name of Dorothy Gale's uncle, and the use of his name was clearly an attempt to loosely link Victor Fleming's cinematic classic in the minds of Lost viewers without making a super obvious reference to it. But wait: there's more! The actual Henry Gale in the context of the show - and the man whose identity Ben stole - came to the island via air balloon, which is exactly the way in which the Wizard came to Oz. Later in the show (and in the episode of the same name), Ben is also referred to as The Man Behind The Curtain, further cementing his connection to The Wizard of Oz.
